Summary | 0008849: Dwarves teleport into canyons
Description | If you embark where there's a canyon, dwarves will often teleport over the canyon, drop to the bottom, and die. In my most recent fortress a dwarf did this before I had a chance to build even one workshop. This has happened several times over my last several fortresses.
Steps To Reproduce | Not always reproducible, but definitely happens with an alarming frequency.
Additional Information | The dwarf was not in combat. He was likely idle. The caravan is right next to the canyon edge. He started positioned safely on land. The only combat logs were him striking the bottom of the canyon on the *opposite* side of the canyon, a place he had no means of getting to as it split the map in half. On attempting to save so I could upload, DF crashed (a separate issue, obviously). This is not always reproducible.

"a place he had no means of getting to as it split the map in half." is probably not that true. There is now jumping and climbing. And idling dwarves have been reported doing weird parkour things. Maybe this one went for a hiking trail and slipped at some bad place. |

Not exactly the same, but here's a save with similar behavior: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=10658 It's the same site, restarting from the embark save. Maybe this isn't a bug. Perhaps dwarves are taken by an 'elfish mood' and prance around, occasionally jumping ravines, and occasionally failing to jump ravines. The only jobs I have designated are on the slice of land the wagon started on. So if there's an explanation about how and why my mechanic is now on the other side of the river (hit F1 and go to the top-right), I'd love to hear it. |

Reminder sent to: bluemoonffl The save you provided here is embark-fresh: there is no mechanic on the other side of the ravine. Did you post the wrong file? It would be more helpful to have a save where this has happened or is in the process of happening so we can see everything that is going on at the time. There are many different reasons and ways a dwarf can get to the other side of that ravine (namely climbing trees, which overhang the ravine). |

If you can provide a save showing an instance of this, please reopen this report and upload a save or contact a manager on the forums. |
