Summary0008935: Dwarves not retrieving wounded ally or items in tree
DescriptionDwarf was knocked unconscious during battle in a tree. Dwarves were unable to retrieve him or provide any food or water. Once dead, his items were irretrievable.
Steps To Reproduce1. Wound dwarf in to extent where they cannot move
2. Disable all jobs from other dwarves except those relevant to recovery
Additional Information- Jobs were created and visible in the manager but not taken by any dwarf despite numerous free dwarves with the enabled relevant skills
- A few times a dwarf would take the "diagnose" job but would drop the job as they approached the tree that the injured dwarf was lying on. No cancellation notices were issued.
- Items were also not retrieved despite being marked for dumping
- No jobs were created for this action

This might be a silly question but are you sure that the dwarves can path into the tree to recover both dwarf and items?

The dwarves that should be retrieving the body are probably not able to path into the tree, but the monkey and the original wounded dwarf were able to path up there.

This isn't particularly interesting and I'm not sure if the behavior is intentional, but it doesn't make sense to me. I've added the save file here:

You might suggest Toady to make stepladders also available for item retrieval from a tree... (or generally, from a higher and otherwise inaccessible place). Otherwise they'll just ignore anything in the tree.

Maybe they would get him down at the next fruit picking season.
Cutting that tree down could also help.
