| Summary | 0008997: Dwarves haul many items simultaneously to bin in improper stockpile | ||||
| Description | If a bin becomes available in an improper stockpile, a dwarf will pick up and haul as many items as will fit into that bin and carry them any distance to the newly available bin. The bin (and items) will then remain in the improper stockpile. The steps to reproduce will probably give you a better idea. I also tested this once with a stockpile full of metal bars and an ammo stockpile with a single bin. Ten bars were hauled simultaneously to the bin in the ammo stockpile and remained there. Possibly related to 0005964 (i.e. an unintended consequence of the solution) | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | 1. Embark with many crafts (~ 60 will work) and a carpenter 2. Create stockpile for finished goods with zero bins allowed 3. Remove the wagon 4. Use wagon log to build carpenter's workshop 5. Make a bin 6. Create a bar/block stockpile with bins allowed 7. Wait for bin to be placed and crafts to be moved to first stockpile 8. Change the number of bins to zero in second stockpile and maximum in the first 9. Watch the hauling! | ||||

Something similar happens when the bin's in the furniture stockpile, except the full bin gets brought back to the correct stockpile at a very slow pace. I'm guessing the "store item in bin" job needs to be restricted to bins actually located in the relevant stockpile, so they'll have to haul the bin to the stockpile before the job to store items in it becomes available. |

52.05 I found many similar issues, this one especailly, so I'll leave these couple saves here. Earlier Save: Hauling needs to get turned on and the issue should reproduce within fifteen days or so; I've also been turning off most other jobs. I have a smallish Stockpile for Blocks. Some Dwarf should wind up carrying a couple dozen Blocks all at once, very slowly bringing these unto the Blocks Stockpile but never dropping them in. It seems that if the Stockpile becomes full, or even anything else gets dropped in the Stockpile — perhaps onto the very specific tile the Dwarf was aiming for? — the Dwarf will get to the Stockpile, do nothing, turn right around, and go to pick up more Blocks. Unlike similar reports, the Dwarves I've seen doing this have not been carrying Bins. https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=17611 Ongoing Loop Save: Thob Nilnerseth is set to 'Haul: siltstone blocks', and is carrying about thirty of them. She is moving away from the Blocks Stockpile which has a couple Tiles free, and one Bin where there's a Boulder in the same Tile. Thob moves between the two Stoneworker's Shops and the Blocks Stockpile picking up bunches of Blocks before finally dumping them in a Bin in the Stockpile. If a Bin has been placed in the Stockpile she might finally dump the Blocks in it, or she'll decide to dump them in the already present Bin, and by either of these cases break out of the loop. Forbidding the Blocks she's carrying also works to break the loop without further issue https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=17612 |
