Summary | 0009154: World generation stuck at "placing civilizations..."
Description | When creating a new world, df freezes when "placing civilizations..." appear and htop show a 100% cpu usage for the df process. It seems it happens at the end of this step because it place few civilizations before freezing.
Steps To Reproduce | Create a new world.
Additional Information | I tried with all the default settings in the init.txt and d_init.txt files. The only way to close dwarf fortress is to kill the process.

I have the exact same issue on Mac OS X 10.11.1. Setting the number of civilizations to “Very Low” increases your chance of avoiding the freeze, but not by much. |
|
After a number of runs this appears to be a lockup that occurs when WorldGen tries to place a specific type of civilization. I have had the lockup occur on trying to place the first all the way through the 20th, and was able to generate a world by setting the number of civs very low. |
