Summary0009501: After Fighting Undead (from tower) Dwarves idle: Don't eat, don't drink, don't go to sleep
DescriptionAfter coming into contact with the undead, dwarves are idling. Not praying, socializing, etc, just idling. This is despite the fact that several have started starving and/or are thirsty. Plenty of booze and plenty of food. Thought it might be an issue with burrows, deleted all burrows, still nothing. They'll move around if I force them into the military, but they won't grab food or drink. Alert status has no impact. Several of them are a bit stressed out, but not all of them. I also tried to reload the game with no affect. Migrants don't have the same issue and only some of my soldiers seem fine to continue to work. After further testing, if I move them some place, they'll idle there. Refusing to go either to their quarters or to a meeting zone. This can be done by moving them via station orders (and then cancelling the order) or via burrow. They'll just stand wherever, ignoring all of their needs.

The undead they ended up fighting were the hair and flesh of a black bear that did kill a couple of my other dwarves. Those undead are still alive, content to hang out and 'push' against a visiting scholar that was leaving. Additionally, due to the way the fight was turning out (never ending mess where everyone was being pulled into it) I had to use a burrow to drag everyone out of the fight, however, I ended up having to redraw the burrow away from that level while the civilians were still in it, cutting off the lower part of my fort

As such, I'm not certain what is causing the issue. Since I deleted the burrows I don't think that is it, I'm guessing it is either due to engaging the undead, that the enemy that they were fighting is still alive, or trying to fight something outside of their burrow. Or it could be that the former owner of the newly minted undead had murdered some dwarves. It doesn't help that the issue isn't even consistent among my non-civilians (some of them continue working, others are having the same issue as all of my civilians).

After even further testing, I lowered my draw bridge to the area where the undead were beating up on my soldiers and I noted that the migrant civilians crossing that area would, instead of dumbly charging into the fray, begin to idle like everyone else. Letting the game run dwarves are dehydrating to death while idle despite plenty of booze.

After further testing, if I force some of the idlers into a fight with the undead it seems to correct the issue to an extent and some of them (not all) will start behaving normally afterwards. EDIT: After even further testing, this doesn't seem to work for all dwarves. I only managed to get 1 or 2 dwarves to return to normal via this method.
