Summary | 0009533: Dwarf wont train animals on pasture if there are caged ones
Description | If there are trainable caged animals, dwarfs are waiting for them to become completely wild before retraining them. I suppose that sometimes dwarfs are willing to train caged animal before any other one, so pastured animals are being ignored. I have pastured plenty of my trained (not completely tame) animals and left some in cages. Sometimes my animal trainers become hanging around, drinking, reading and having no job while my pastured animals become completely wild and getting killed. If I slaughter caged animals, dwarfs are somehow getting to train pastured ones.
Steps To Reproduce | Assign any trainer to caged trainable animals, then pasture some of them and wait.

I haven't seen that issue, even though I've had both pastured animals in need of retraining as well as caged ones in 0.42.04. Thus, I'd say the issue is not always present, but somehow dependent on the conditions in McBug's fortress. In my case, all dwarves are assigned as trainers, with one or two exceptions, and all animals set to be trained by any trainer. Most wild captures are kept in cages, but I've pastured two jabberers who were retrained properly, as were their offspring (who were tamed, with one separately reported bug relating to pastures), as well as my 3 gremlins who have to be retrained again and again. |
