Summary | 0009579: citizen 'succeeds to position' as baron of a different fort, listed as my baron and makes demands
Description | After several years with no outpost liaison, including one with no dwarven caravan, there was an announcement of a dwarf succeeding to the position of baron of [some fort other than mine], as the rightful heir. The dwarf immediately demanded the usual set of furniture and applies mandates like a normal baron, but is listed as baron of the other fortress in the nobles screen. Other visiting nobility (e.g. consorts and ladies) do not make demands and are not in the nobles list.
Steps To Reproduce | unknown, but have seen similar glitches in previous forts
Additional Information | Fortress was created in 42.05, and migrated to 42.06 when that became available. (The save is available, but is not currently on-hand.)

On the first page of the gamelog; an early migrant to the fort: Zaneg Shemnicat, Fishery Worker cancels Fish: Forbidden area. Much later: Zaneg Plankchained, being the rightful heir, has inherited the position of baroness of Minedscrapes. Zaneg Shemnicat, baroness of Minedscrapes has imposed a ban on certain exports. The fortress name is Caveball, not Minedscrapes. Minedscrapes is/was a mountainhall whose last legends entry was in 251 (current year 257). It might have been the mountainhome for this civ, but it wasn't reported conquered. Am I just considered to be hosting this heir, or will the fortress not get a baron of its own? |
|
Happened to me, too. Didn't actually realize it was a bug: Her baron/ess parent died, she inherited it. I was able to get a barony of my own later, so now I have two baronesses. It's mighty annoying. |
|
It's less of a bug than an incomplete feature. Currently emigration doesn't exist so nobles of other cities who started out as your fortress members won't leave. It's more noticeable now that visiting nobles don't make demands and eventually leave. |
|
There's also another bug that's a consequence of this (not sure if it should be it's own bug?) that I've seen in my fortress. If you get your own baron after other dwarves in your fortress inheriting a barony title, and then your baron gets upgraded, all of the barons get upgraded. This is instead of just your baron being promoted to duke and the others staying as barons. I will try to upload some save files showing this. |
