Description | I embarked on an island fortress, to escape from the endless migrant waves. It didn't hinder them a bit, in fact, I'm up to my eyeballs in immigrants thanks to the 'safety' of my fort, since goblins, kobolds, and other miscreants cannot get to my fortress. | ||||
Steps To Reproduce | I suspect this bug occurs whenever you embark on an island location with no connection to the mainland. | ||||

I also have this occurring. But I knew other civilizations wouldn't be there because I looked through the embark screen by cycling through the different tabs. I haven't found a place where there were no dwarves. Makes sense, because how else did your 7 get there? I suggest making the "safety" of your fort have the opposite effect using artificial means. If you know what I mean. |

I believe this is intended behavior -- your own civ can always reach you, even if nobody else can. |

Elven traders and Dwarven traders can still reach me... just not Human traders, or Goblins or Kobolds. So... um. |

This is intended. The idea is that your 7 dwarves SOMEHOW got there. The "how" is pretty much abstracted away until Toady officially implements boats and the like. |

Darth, are there even Humans, Goblins, Kobolds, left alive in your world? |

The Humans control around 90% of the land on the map, split between their two empires. As for goblins and kobolds, I have no idea, why wouldn't there be? |

Because they can go extinct. Having humans in the world doesn't necessarily mean they can access your fortress. It would be helpful if you abandoned the fort or regenerated the world and checked the embark site to see which civs can reach you (hit Tab a couple times on the embark screen). |

there's no need, just hit the c key in fort mode, it gives the same information. |

@DZ: The c key in fort mode only shows the civs you have contact with, so if no humans show up at your fort, you won't have any human civs show up in that menu. |

Okay, I hit c, and I can see the following: "Unnamed Cave swallow man civilization Unnamed Bat man civilization Led Astel, "The Rack of Allying", Dwarven" No mention of humans, kobolds, goblins, OR elves. |

DarthCloakedDwarf -- as explained above, hitting 'c' will only show civilizations that your fortress has made contact with, so it's not helpful here. Unfortunately, to get to the bottom of this, you have to do the embark thing I explained above. |

Footkerchief: that's not entirely true. Embarking on a map will immediately show you the underground civilization (the "unnamed bat man civ" etc) in the area. Which is likely a bug in itself. |

@Foot: But why doesn't it show the Elves, then? |

Toady mentioned that civ ID numbers may be messed up (0000017:0002787), that's the best guess I have. Do the embark thing or at least upload your save, please. |

Odd. It shows my neighbors as "Dwarves". Two different civilizations, no Elves, Humans, Goblins, or anyone. A shame the dwarves could reach me. |

Hmm... in that case, the only potential bug here is that you got an elf caravan which apparently had no civ. Reproducing that could be tricky, though. |
