Summary | 0010874: Having conversations does not train Conversationalist skill
Description | Having conversations does not train Conversationalist skill - despite the fact that having arguments can train the Persuader, Flatterer, Intimidator, and Pacifier skills. Even if it would have no effect, it would be nice to have as a measure of how many conversations a character has had. Maybe that "pleasure to speak with" thought could be influenced by it.
Steps To Reproduce | Start AM character Have many conversations Check skills Note no Conversationalist skill

I will be fairly amused if this suddenly fixes player problems with friendships with a simple change. For the point of the test have you used a dwarf character? Unless they are drunk, by default dwarven cultural imprinted psyche makes them quite reclusive and withdrawn and if this transfers to skill gain off that factor, it might set up a negative value on something Toady already nerfed post-parties when conversations were too effective & fast. In fortress mode, migrants start with levels of conversationalists & im sure brokers through very intense talking can improve it, but if it can't be replicated in adventuremode then it might be cause for concern. |

I've tried both Dwarf and Human with traits that I think would not prevent this. I've also tried conversating while each were drunk. (On a side note, getting a human drunk is more difficult than a dwarf - they get full just as easily but their bigger size means they need more alcohol.) |

I can confirm none of the adventure mode dialogue options train conversationalist. I am sorta wondering whether, just like the lack of a 'make joke' option or the ability to lie whether it just isn't a case of a lack of appropriate dialogue option, or whether the existing conversational options(talk about weather/surroundings, express emotion, ask how other is feeling) are bugged. |
