Summary | 0010961: Returning non training schedule military dwarves unassigned from squads after recalled from seized site
Description | When a save is loaded, dwarves that were previously inactive due to no training schedule for that period (in order to give them a break to fufill needs) and returning from a raid are unassigned from their squads. This only happens when loading a save during this period which fortunately i managed to create by accident and capture which i will link onto a note.
Steps To Reproduce | Make a squad, dismiss training schedules while active (not inactive) so that they take a month off (or for demonstration purposes, always) and make them wear uniform while 'technically inactive' in the non-training scheduled state. Send them on a mission and save & return before they get back inside the fortress. When you re-load your dwarves will no longer be within those squads and you can track them around your fortress by their name and profession hauling the goods back and still wearing their armor which they dont seem to abandon.
Additional Information | They are most definitely not forcibly unassigned dwarves because they are carrying loot back from the raid, despite having hauling labours turned off explicitly by myself in my save as i do for every military dwarf. I had took a break from DF to come back and find this oddity, so i apologise that i can't add more clarity about my actions before i sent off the dwarves.

In your save, you seized an enemy site. When a site seizure is successful, some (or all?) raiding dwarves are expected to remain and set up a new government for that site. In your case, it appears that some of those dwarves returned but were still removed from their squads as though they'd remained at the seized site. |
Oh oops, you've reminded me that i hadn't checked the location of my messenger who is a new arrival further in the site, in all likelyhood the announcments relevant to that were wiped with the save. It is still highly inconvenient that they've arrived in their armor and removed positions though, due to buggyness it seems they've brought some loot from the place they were sent to be reclaimed from because of the mission objectives didn't rule them out from doing so, profanebridled (conquered pits to the west). There are some other military dwarves i didn't notice left to station there that i must have forgot about. This is a slightly buggy misunderstanding i think; this issue report should be split up or closed please. |
Are you saying that the dwarves correctly remained at the seized site and didn't return until you sent a messenger requesting them to? In that case I'd say it's working as expected. |
Yes, just to clarify i think it was a mistake on my part having no reference at the time as to why they're coming back until you helped me remember about what my messenger should be doing in relation to them since he was also arriving. Still can't pry them out of their military clothes & armor they are keen to not give over, would require reassigning them to strip entirely naked just to make them give the clothes back. Edit - They gave the clothes/armor and strapped weapons back to the stockpiles after a period of time, probably while reconsidering when to circulate to new civilian clothes. |
Likely all new arrivals have a delay prior to updating their clothing and equipment to keep 'em from stripping naked at the map edge and running for the fortress stockpiles. Returning squads do not have such a sanity check, and they are considerably more problematic (0010912). |
