Summary | 0011303: Cave moss not appearing in cavern layers
Description | I've been attempting to make a series of cavern-locked dwarvws with grazers but I've actually been unable to get cave grass to spawn at all.
Steps To Reproduce | 1) Generate a world 2) Dig to the first cavern layer 3) Witness the lack of moss.
Additional Information | I've made some init changes regarding the fps counter, spacing, and other minor gameplay tweaks but nothing was related to plants

Cavern moss can spawn on dirt stairs once the caverns are revealed but won't spontaneously or noticably spread to appropriate sun-hidden soil tiles from what i've seen anecdotally on a few worlds for 47.01. Some saves provided in notes uploaded to DFFD would help clarify, i will attach one when i have the appropriate means to but it seemingly happens on every embark attempt reliably enough to reproduce. |

Some caverns are dry at random. Are there any mushroom "trees" in the cavern? If not, this is likely the cause. |

Nearly all underground plants (including cave moss) require a "wet" biome. If you "tweaked" the caverns to be "dry" then a lack of plant life is expected. Even if you didn't, subterranean chasm caverns will occasionally spawn. How many caverns did you actually check? I checked a few caverns in v0.47.01: three had moss, one did not. Those with moss released "spores" and spread vegetation to other underground tiles as expected. |

Here is an example from this thread... http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=175575.0 , the save... http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=14792 You can see that the player breached a mossy cavern on z66, and built a wall in the tile adjacent to moss. But spores will not spread until another mossy cavern is breached, on z13, about 20 tiles to the northwest of the central staircase. |
