This exact thing happened to me, but the game didn't actually freeze. I walked into the throne room and spoke with the lord, taking over the site and the pop up dialog box appeared. I pressed Okay and nothing happened. So I just kept clicking on it, like 100 times. Then the box disappeared and another dialog box appeared that said "You are now in control of ..." about 100 times with a final "okay" at the end. I pressed that okay button and walked a few feet. Another dialog box appeared saying the same thing popped up, so I pressed it and it didn't go away. I continued pressing okay about 100 more times and, again, the box disappeard and the 2nd box appeared. I pressed that okay button and finally, the dialog boxes stopped coming up and I was able to bite the lord to death. |

Same thing happened, i asked human town baron if i can be a heartperson (all nobles are my long-acquaintances), he refused saying i'm not yet worthy, i started walking further in the fortress, then suddenly the dialog box appeared saying i'm now in control of the town, i thought it freezed as i was clicking "more" and nothing happened but then "ok" and the list of the same message of "you are now in control..." repeating several times. i make a step and it happened again, i clicked through that, the box and the list dismissed and now i'm a Lord and the name of my horseshoe crab man character is now "lord". Also apparently the town now has two site governments and i'm the Lord of the second one. Earlier in the dialog with my companion i clicked "Claim this area for yourself" but when the naming menu opened i dismissed it, so i don't really now if the second site government was created by me or it appeared on itself.
Edit: so apparently the box appears when i'm in the certain zone of the fortress, exactly 32 messages of "You are now in control..." appear every step.
