Summary | 0012943: Game Crash on World Gen (missing file?)
Description | I was playing DF last night and wanted to start afresh, so deleted my world. I chose to start a new one, and created a new world with default settings. The game starts to 'loading data needed to create new world... preparing graphics..." and then gets to 'vanilla text' about 75% through and an error pop up comes up saying 'tileset not found' 'not found: data/vanilla/vanilla_environment/graphics/images/ramps_overlay.png' Then you select okay and the game exits. This was not an issue last night and now my one day off to game cannot be done.
Steps To Reproduce | As above. I've tried adjusting the settings, restarting the computer, etc. But nothing works.
Additional Information | Guessing deleting the existing world maybe deleted additional files in the game?
Tags | ramp, tileset, world builder

I uninstalled the entire game and reinstalled. Seems to have fixed the issue, but guessing something needs to be done with the original bug as it clearly messed something up. |
|
Are you playing on Windows or on Linux? |
|
Same thing here. Uninstalling the game and re-installing fixed the issues with the default files, but it seems all mods are broken for the time being, attempting to pull from the old, broken filepaths. |
|
I'm on 52.04 Classic downloaded from the bay12 website. I use no mods. Seems related to what happens to me on Linux if I do not run the game from directly within the game folder. Thus: ./dwarfort <-- Works Fine ~/games/df/dwarfort <-- Works Not If I run the game the wrong way it does not crash at any point, but if I then load a save, the loading does abort with the following kind of message: "Failed to find compatible mod:\nVanilla Text 50.01". I click OK and get sent back to Main Menu. |
|
Traditionally, DF has always tried to load files relative to the current working directory, and 0.47.05 (and earlier) would throw an immediate error on program startup from failing to read the "data/index" file if you tried to run it from the wrong directory. Since the Steam release, it seems like this doesn't result in obviously "fatal" errors until you try to create/load a world. |
