Product Version | 51.03 | ||||
Summary | 0013086: Game executable will not launch
Description | Just downloaded 51.03 from itch. Extracted to a new directory and moved it to Program Files. Executable does not launch — the mouse cursor changes briefly to an hourglass and back, but nothing else happens. I tried removing the read-only attribute from the folder and all its contents, but this had no effect on execution. Other installed versions do not have this problem.
Steps To Reproduce | Launch game executable.

Occurs even on new download, extracted, un-read-only-ed, and run in place without moving to Program Files. errorlog.txt and gamelog.txt are blank. |

This crash no longer happens after installing the latest VC++ redistributable from Microsoft, 14.42.34433.0: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe As shown above, I had apparently been on 14.32.31326.0. |

On a side note, Dwarf Fortress is not designed to run from the Program Files directory - unless you unrestrict its permissions (which defeats the purpose of putting it there), it will be unable to save any new worlds (or even save configuration changes). |
