Summary | 0013204: River animals don't spawn after embark |
---|
Description | When first arriving on an embark, rivers are full of non-vermin animals like various large fish (like tigerfish and milkfish,) hippos, alligators, etc. They linger for a couple of months, but after they wander after the map, no other river creatures ever appear again. |
---|
Steps To Reproduce | Set up a 4x4 embark fortress with a major river. (30 squares wide.) Played for 10 months game-time, watching the animal populations. After the first month no new river creatures spawned. Set up a new 1x1 embark next to a river (24 squares wide) and used DF-Hack to force-spawn new animals 25+ times. No new river creatures ever emerged; everything afterwards was land-based or flying.

Additional Information | I believe I've seen creatures, like alligators or crocodiles, emerge from swamp or marsh edge-tiles if they're available, so it might only apply to creatures that need river edge-tiles to enter the map. It's been a long while since I've seen an alligator outside of the first couple of months after embark, so I can't confirm it one way or another. |
