Summary0013305: Large portions of the surface are collapsing, possibly caused by problems in World Generation.
DescriptionAfter retiring a 4-year long fort, I started an Adventurer to go visit it. A little way into my journey, I found that exiting map travel mode caused the ground to collapse. This often happened underneath me and was mostly fatal, but in some cases I was able to move before it happened and would find large, square sections of the map collapsed directly ahead and behind me. If I walked around the sinkhole and continued on my way, it would happen again not long after.

Other peculiarities:
Traveling distances via the map was PAINFULLY slow, taking 10+ seconds per step
Despite traveling for several days, my adventurer never needed to eat, drink, or sleep while walking back to the fort I was visiting
Turning off caveins stopped them from happening, but did not speed up map travel
ASCII mode seemed to help map travel speeds a little bit

I did a few embarks in the area and wasn't able to find any of the holes that had opened up, however in one case I embarked, turned caveins back on, and unpaused, then had to wait about 8 minutes while the game collapsed the entire embark area (4x4)
Several other embarks in the area immediately received "Something in the caverns has collapsed" notifications upon unpausing, but didn't have anything catastrophic happen
On one such embark, I noticed a peculiarity in the minimap as I was scrolling (near the bottom of the map, a rectangular section of the black part of the map became grey, with black beside it) using DFhack, I quickly dug down into this grey area and found the Underworld, without encountering any of the usual signs. Important to note: Cavern 3 and Underworld exist on the same Z-Level on this map (it starts at -95), which seems odd but I don't have a ton of experience digging too deep in the modern version.

Also at one location I found surface grass growing beside lava at Z -112

I think the problem is limited to the western part of the map; the one or two embarks I did very far away seemed normal.

I have screenshots and videos and can get as many more as needed.
Additional InformationAdvanced World Generation was not used; the world was made with the default settings, but I turned mineral prevalence down to "Scarce" and set the start year to "250." DFhack is installed but its functions are disabled, all of my mods are visual not mechanical.
