This is intended behavior, AFAIK. If you make them from actual blocks, you get "smooth <stone> block <construction>". The idea is that the boulder item serves as a "rough block" in the context of masonry -- something like this, I guess: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_stone#Dry_stone_walls |
