Summary0001413: Post - Artifact Ex Soldier Dwarf Does Nothing
DescriptionI had a dwarf who I believe, given his skill set, was likely in the military at one point (unfortunately, I cannot recall well enough to confirm this absolutely). Regardless, despite having skill for it that I can remember, he went into a mood and took over a masons shop, becoming a legendary engraver upon artifact completion. However, he now does nothing. No changes in tasks affect this. He will not haul, engrave, or do anything else, and instead spends his time in meeting zones with 'no job'.
Steps To ReproduceI honestly have very little idea of how this happened, unfortunately. It wasn't something expected. All I remember is being surprised that he took over a masons shop at all, instead of doing a craftsdwarf shop.

Hmm, sounds a bit like 0000605. It may be helpful to upload a save with this useless dwarf to http://dffd.wimbli.com/

Hrm. Apparently I was wrong about the legendary/mood part. I must have mistaken him with another dwarf I didn't expect to take over a mason's shop.

Regardless, I still have a gem cutter who has absolutely no current function, and idles all the time. He really does look like he was once part of the military, so it's likely they are related. His name is Avuz Loratzel, and he stands around at the meeting zone at 136. Will upload the file shortly.

Btw, I can confirm 605. By chance, just as I was reading that note, I had done the -exact- same thing. Recruited three miners, two began individual training. Disbanded the squad, they continued training. Disbanded the barracks, and those two ran off to hang out in the meeting room in eternal idleness.

Will likely atomsmash them soon.

As an aside, they also ditched their clothing the moment they left the army. So now I have two naked miners running around with picks that don't actually mine or do anything.. Ditching armor is understandable. Ditching clothing..eh..

Any chance of getting that save?

Its an easy enough issue to reproduce.

Embark even with nothing at all. Use a log or stone to make an armor stand. Make a barracks from it. Make a squad and let them go to individual training at that barracks.

Then deconstruct the armor stand to remove the barracks and the dwarves should have "no job" but at the same time will not count towards your idlers, and they will never again take up any workshop/hauling job, but will eat/sleep/booze normally.

This behavior should be fixed for 0.31.06, and the procedure described in the previous note won't give the buggy behavior any more. Organized training might still have related issues, but we'll consolidate that discussion in 0000605 and its relatives and children.
