Summary0000153: Vermin remains are not hauled
DescriptionI have 10 idle dwarves, all with all hauling labors enabled and they refuse to move even one single vermin corpse to the refuse stockpile.

Since I don't particularly want several hundred vermin corpses cluttering my landscape I make a garbage dump and issue a dump command on a batch of vermin corpses. Again, none are hauled.

If this coupled with the fact that vermin do not rot is intended as a feature to make it easier on stockpiles... think again... this fortress is barely a year old and there's already HUNDREDS of vermin corpses out there... and apparently, they're permament artifacts... I cringe to consider what it will look like after 10 or 20 years of play.

Wait a minute... there's vermin in my refuse stockpile... not many, but they're there... sooo maybe this is a pathing issue... *sigh* more testing...

Still testing...
Deleted my refuse stockpile that contained vermin and made a new refuse stockpile... 25 idlers, all refusing to haul so much as a single vermin to the new stockpile.

I checked the area with d-b to make sure there were no forbid or dump flags complicating things. There were none.

took a close look at the item list in the refuse stockpile to verify that all of my vermin were accounted for on the list (toad, lizard, large roach) so they should be moved there, but still aren't moving.

I've checked my military settings and deleted my burrows so it can't be a restriction from burrows settings... I think I'm about at the point where I close this fortress and see if this reproduces on my next fort.

Created a stone stockpile in the general vicinity of the vermin that were not being hauled to verify that dwarves could path to the general area. The dwarves quickly moved to the task and filled the stockpile.

Just observed ONE peasant hauling ONE vermin corpse to the stockpile. 22 idlers still standing around ignoring the issue. I've made no real changes to labor settings so everyone should be able to haul refuse.

Do you have "Dwarves Gather Refuse From Outside" enabled? (o-r-o)

Ooooo... a new button... no I did not. that does seem to fix it. They're still very reluctant to haul vermin often preferring to be idle rather than hauling, but they are slowly doing so now.

Also note that you can go to the stocks menu; and use the H key to hide all refuse. :D

That's like telling me to hide the socks... Any true dwarf knows the only correct response to clutter issues is MAGMA!

Seriously though, this can probably be closed. apparently outside vermin hauling is what the problem was. (o-r-o)

I had this problem today, could not move vermin corpse from my vermin refuse stockpile to dump designation. My dwarfs move the vermin to refuse pile without a problem, but going from pile to dump they won't.

however making collect refuse outside turned on worked...

I would not need to worry about this issue though once vermin corpse rot is fixed

Yeah, the "gather refuse from outside" order is important.
