| Description | Save game: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2271, under the right most floor grates in the moat around the trade depot. When a bunch of goblins ambushed my full trade depot, an Elf merchant somehow got into the moat (7/7 water), and under my retractable floor grates. She doesn't have any wounds or whatever, but doesn't drown either. | ||||

The grate overhead might be the issue. Swimming creatures can probably breathe through it. |

She also didn't show up with a blue background in the creature list. The odd thing is that I wanted to test your theory about the grate, but she's now lying very dead two tiles further. I'm very certain that she remained in the water for a couple of save/load cycles. |

Merchants tend to die of thirst pretty quickly if forced to remain on the map. I had a similar sequence of events back in 40d or 38c or something, where I dumped merchants into a high-walled moat. They swam there happily in 7/7 water for a while, and then abruptly dropped dead. |
