| Summary | 0001812: Engraving graphical bug | ||||
| Description | Engraved tiles show up as random characters. Smoothed tiles are fine. I can't believe I'm the first to report this one so I bet there is another ticket out there, but I searched and couldn't find one | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | 1) Smooth some tiles 2) Engrave those tiles Reproduced on a new fortress, with 2 different tilesets (default curses and mayday) Installed a fresh copy of DF 0.31.03 and same behavior | ||||
| Additional Information | Screenshot shows before/after toggling from smooth to engraved via designate menu: http://www.shackpics.com/files/DFToggleEngravingBug_q9as5hauemvngtlrlcsl.png | ||||

They're not random characters - they represent what's been engraved. "≈" is waves, "○" is probably a bracelet, "[" is armor or clothing, "&" is some sort of demon, "♥" is a dimple cup, "¶" is probably a mug, and "☺" has to do with dwarves. |

1. Your picture doesn't work. Edit: It does now, obviously, but... 2. Ok, this is going to be a bit explanation heavy but I believe it will explain your 'problem'. - Engraving a tile tells your engravers/stone detailers to inscribe something on the tile. - This means IMAGES! They will draw things on the tile. - If you K over the tile and select the tile you can read a description of the thing they drew. - The tile of the thing they drew (Smiley faces are dwarves) is the tile used on the engraving (so an engraving of dwarves shows up as a smiley face). - Thus it looks like random tiles but it's actually a pictorial representation of the thing they engraved. Does this explain your behaviour? If you don't mind me asking, what did you expect would happen? Also I believe if you want them all to look the same you can turn "Engravings_Start_Obscured" from NO to YES in the init file. Edit: Yea, judging by the images it just seems like engraving doesn't do what you expect. Do the above notes explain the behaviour? |

Sorry! I did misunderstand how engraving works. This can be closed! |

The "Engravings_Start_Obscured" option also only affects new engravings, you can change how current engravings look through the designations menu->Toggle engravings (d->v) |
