Summary0001897: Dwarves too happy about dining room
DescriptionEach and every ones of my dwarves are "dined in a legendary dining room recently", but the only dining room in my fortress is a fine one.
Steps To ReproduceBuild a dining room.
Check its quality with [R].
Check dwarves status with [v][z][enter] after they had a snack.
Additional InformationSaid dining room is 13x7, smoothed stone room with 17 rock tables and 17 rock thrones, some being superior quality but no masterwork.

Either the dwarves are too happy about it or it's legendary and is displayed incorrectly.
In my humble opinion, such a dining room shouldn't be legendary, by the way.

Dining there was a fantastic experience.

I'm pretty sure it's got to be a bug, still present in 0.31.25

I've been doing a pretty bad job of my first ever fortress, and I was expecting that I'd have lots of Fun and have my dwarves tantrum spiral, since I'm doing a pretty shoddy job of it...but instead all extatic, because of the legendary dining room, which consisists of eight dolomite tables and chairs (none of only normal quality, but also, if I remember correctly, none of exceptional or masterwork quality). Of course, lots of idle time due to poor management could also be a factor.

The dining room is built on red sand, in the first room I carved out of the ground, intended for future military use. The floor is, of course, unsmoothable/unengravable, it's just makeshift, temporary dining, built out of the first stone available in the first space available, but says "dined in a legendary dining room recently" on every dwarf's thoughts page.

The R screen likewise lists it as a fine dining room, as in the previous report.

I can upload a save file if needed.

I think this may have been resolved.

Dug a 2 tile hole in the ground and put a wooden table and chair in it. Made a dining room which game ranked as meagre.

Dwarf ate in it and got the "dined in a good dining room recently" thought which wiki says is the lowest quality.

May need further testing.

Jayjay, your testing doesn't confirm the bug as closed. A meager dining room is one step above what the dwarf requires (nothing), so the dwarf gets the lowest happy thought. Higher ranked dining rooms cause higher bonuses.

Insofar as this is actually a bug, it still exists in 0.43.05. However, it seems to be a (possibly) unintended consequence of the nobility system rather than a bug: since dwarves have no requirements for dining quarters, a meager dining room gives them a low-level positive thought and each increasing quality of dining accommodations increases the level of that thought. The "bug" comes about because there are fewer levels of happy thought for dining quarters than there are quality levels of quarters.
