Summary | 0001980: Mac - Random crash
Description | Game crashes to terminal randomly. Returns the following error: Pathfinder/df: line 5: 11090 Bus error ./dwarfort.exe
Steps To Reproduce | Appears to happen randomly. I've not been able to tie it down to a specific action. Usually the game will run for a month to half a season before it happens. On reload from save, it'll continue for about that time as well. It's possible it's tied to an in-game event that isn't set in motion until after the save and then takes time to carry out, but so far there's no specific action that I've found I cannot do. Because of this, I have no save to offer. Graphics are off, so it's unrelated to that bug.

I wonder if it's related to bug 1966. Foot notes there that save/load resets some of the pathfinding stuff. http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=1966 I have bridges and other triggered buildings but none have been pulled or activated since I started running 0.31.04. I've done some digging, installation of hatch covers, building of floors over open areas, however all of which would have changed pathfinding. It's possible one of these activities triggered the crash. |
|
If you just leave the save to run with no input, does it still crash? If so, it would be helpful to upload it to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ And yeah, it would be helpful to experiment with bridges, hatches, etc. to see if those cause crashes more reliably. |
|
Why don't we close this for now. I've had a steady melt items job going (interspersed with some other smelter tasks) in my fortress and it's entirely possible looking at what Toady just fixed that it was responsible for the crash. I'll open a new one if I can better determine a cause. |

Mmkay, we'll chalk it up to 0001046 for now. You can also reopen this one if you want. |
