Summary0000213: Strange Farm Plot activity
DescriptionFarms built underground with 'holes' in the ceiling above will allow designation to seed both AG and UG plants. Only seems to fill the 'lighted' sections when you attempt to plant an AG

This doesn't sound like news. above ground tiles can only be used for above ground plants. underground tiles can only be used for underground crops.

Since a farm can only be planted with a single type of crop, having a farm include both types of tiles just isn't useful.

Actually you can plant numerous types in a single plot just by cycling seed type

I just checked the last version: A channel revealing the outside, whether covered or not, will not allow an AG plant to be seeded if the farm plot itself extends UG

He's talking about a plot that is partially above ground and partially below ground. I honestly don't know offhand how that worked before since making a mixed above/below ground plot just doesn't make a lot of sense. But I don't see a major issue if it allows the planting of either now as long as it respects the tiles it should not plant on which by his description, it does.

I suppose I should look at it just to see. I'm curious if a mixed above/below ground plot behaves like the partially irrigated plots described in 0000087

im not 100% sure on the limited planting sections...i only had so many prickle seeds when i tried it...if the idiots would do their job instead of sitting idle for a week...

by cycling seed types what do you mean? different seed each season? If so this isn't news either.

I think he means to designate a seed type and after it's planted, change to another type.

yeah, same season, just change what you want planted. They won't UNplant something thats there

Further look is yeah, they'll plant as long as the tile isnt covered..I covered it up and dug a channel in a random place and nothing happened

Covered all the holes, option TO plant prickle and such are still there, but they just wont now

EDIT: Sorry slow typing, testing this while a craftsdwarf is slowly going nuts not having shells for his artifact *sigh*

Ok I'm going to try and understand/explain what's going on.

So you've got a section of land, above which there is is some mix of roof and air.
Plant on the land, and you can plant both above-ground and under-ground crops.
Attempting to plant above-ground crops only results in them being planted in the area in which there is air above them.

This seems like it might be working as intended, actually.

Zuber, the reporter IS Cybergenesis... I assume he knows what he's talking about.

Aye, i'm just reporting it because of the vast difference in how it's working compared to the old version.

The other issue is that now that i've entombed my plot, i still get offered the options, but they wont DO it. Minor, annoyance value nothing more. Thats why i flagged it low/minor

... So, you had holes in your roof, they're gone now, but the option to plant above-ground seeds remains? And if you select it, they won't plant it?

Is this still true after a season change?

How about after rebuilding the farm plot?

"Inside light above ground" even after season change as far as the ground tiles go

Rebuilding i doubt would change anything since the tiles it's built on are still 'I-L-AG'

Strangely though the dwarves just refuse to plant AG plants with a roof

Assuming its because the tiles dont change to inside dark. We already knew 'above ground' doesnt go away when you build a roof.
