Description | I dug a 5x5 pit and flooded it with 1-2/7 water. After the water evaporated, several tiles were described as 'muddy gneiss Cavern floor', but had no mud present, making it impossible to build farms on them. Removing the farms and reflooding the area only made the problem worse, since several other tiles also lost their mud cover. | ||||

I think what might be happening is that the water is pushing the mud around, so instead of a blanket of mud, we're getting piles and empty spots. |

That could be the answer, but then there has to be a mechanism that prevents multiple mud piles from existing in a single tile, since there is never more than one unit of mud on any of my tiles. I guess the problem comes from also having code that prevents ground already described as 'muddy' from generating new mud piles. |

Flooding an area quickly seems to work, but letting it dry out a few times before the flooding is complete causes the mud to disappear. |

I had this problem too and found the following workaround: build and remove floor-tiles on the spots with no mud. After that the tiles should be normal rock and can be muddied again. |

Currently on 31.08, and I'm actually having difficulty creating a farm. I have a nice underground area all mined out. Its completely subterranean. The rocks have been hauled away to a stockpile because I'm OCD like that. I have a complex plumbing system to pipe water in from a brook on the surface, down a shaft, where it then floods into the farming room. A lever controls this, hooked to a retracting bridge that opens and closes the bridge which blocks the water. Excess water is allowed to drain off the side of the map through fortifications. I flooded the entire area to at least 4/7 water. Twice. Yet some tiles still have no mud on them. Can plant a farm just fine: Muddy chert Cavern Floor A small pile of mud No farm! There is no pile of mud, even though the tile has been wet: Muddy chert Cavern Floor I'm not sure what to make of this. I keep flooding and reflooding the cavern, but its not working. I can't get all of the tiles to have piles of mud on them. |

I bet this is related to 0000013 as they both have to do with mud, or rather the lack of mud. |

Maybe, but if the mud vanishes later on somehow. Notice in the pictures the water has all dried up, even the 1/7 water. It won't even let me build the farm field because there is no mud on the muddy chert cavern floor. I'm not sure when the mud vanished, but its possible that if you were to start building when the water was 1/7, complete building, and then the 1/7 water dries up after the farm is finished the mud could vanish, rendering the farm unusable. |

We should compile the farming related and mud related bugs together since right now you can't farm without mud underground, period. |

I can not reproduce this, and I've set up multiple farms. Hyndis, your photo no-mud2 shows "dusting of mud" that is all that is required. You don't need piles of mud. Try a 1x1 square on that tile. What are your other photos showing? The last one looks like you're trying to build a 10x10 on dry dirt? The first one shows muddy chert floor. Have you tried building a 1x1 tile on that? |

Kwieland: The purple Xs (purple because they're not contiguous) in the 3rd picture are the individual tiles that were determined to be viable for farm plot placement - note that the tile in the 1st picture does not have an X in the 3rd picture while the one in the 2nd picture does. Thus, a 1x1 farm plot would've been placeable on the tile in the 2nd picture but not the tile from the 1st picture. |
