Summary | 0002477: Hostiles being transferred between cages get attacked by friends
Description | Say you've trapped several goblins. Now you want them all in one cage. If you have traders around (and their military escort) when they are being escorted around, the military escort will attack them (one sided battle).
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Trap a hostile (goblin/troll/etc). Place the cage near the trade depot. 2. Have someone (dwarfs/humans) come trade with you. 3. Assign the hostile to a new cage. 4. Watch the friendlies (trader escort) attack with a vengeance as the hostile is docilely lead to the new cage.
Additional Information | First noticed this in .03, still present in .08

The key word here is hostile, the Goblins are hostile to just about everybody, same goes for trolls who are part of the goblin civ. Alternatively, just don't transfer prisioners anywhere near merchant escorts or make the traders and escorts go on a certain path. I'm not seeing any bug here. |

The same thing happened back in 40d, and *only* caravan guards would attack them - your own military (and guards) viewed them as not being a threat and would leave them alone. See my original report: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=40669.0 |
|
Oh I see, I guess I just never encountered that in 40D. Still, there are plenty of ways to get around this issue. |
|
I had not seen it in 40d before, but you are right that this is the same bug. The workaround is easy enough as was pointed out. I think it is a bug because the hostiles are in your custody. By most ethics/conventions (Geneva?) you shouldn't allow others to attack them without them being able to fight back. Do you see this as a bug, Quietust? By the way, do you know if the "cage full of animals" taken to the depot (then subsequently released) has been reported? EDIT:What about transferring goblin thieves between cages? Any other goblin (pike/sword, etc) is fine, but not thieves. They aways escape. Does it help if you have a DM? |
|
The Geneva Convention doesn't (and didn't) exist in DF, but yea I see what you're getting at. Especially considering that captives (even the local leaders) submit to your dwarves dragging them around, until the dwarves let go for some damn reason, disarming them helps of course. As for the taking a cage full of animals (or anything in a cage) to the depot and having the critter be released bug, that one was reported, so its around here somewhere. Edit: Forgot I had the bug report you mentioned monitored myself: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=480 |
