Summary | 0002521: One dwarf dead and the other dwarfs spine crushed and legs broken but no combat report!
Description | I started a fort on http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=60021.0 When winter came I dug away the ice and put floodgates in the brook. Suddenly a huge lagspike happened, everything froze for about 5-10 seconds. I thought spring had returned but it was only the southern part of the river that had thawed. Suddenly I get messages about "Bring water canceled: no buckets"... WTF I have no injured dwarves... so I check my hospital and there lies a dwarf: "Left upper leg is broken. His lower spine is broken. His right upper leg is broken." Later on I find another dwarf dead in the dining hall... but no combat report. At all! What happened?
Steps To Reproduce | Sorry but I don't have any way of reproducing this, I don't have a save of the game before it happened either.

You only get combat reports if the injuries result from actual combat. Those injuries were probably caused by some kind of accident -- falling or drowning or something. You should still have the cause-of-death announcements -- search for the dead dwarf's name in gamelog.txt. Also, you should probably have posted this in Gameplay Questions instead. |
|
Even if there was a cave-in I would have gotten a notice about it, and the person who died in the dining-hall would have been carried to one of the 4 free beds in the hospital since there was 5-10 idle dwarves at the moment. Search for Ast Dorenthob, there is only one cave in and that happened right at the beginning of the game, no dwarves involved at all. http://pastebin.com/LqdjMS5d ... I'm cutting the log here since the rest is 3000 lines before the Goblins slaughter everyone. |

Is this your dead dwarf? Goden Dostobtirist, Lye Maker cancels Strange Mood: Went insane. Goden Dostobtirist, Lye Maker is stricken by melancholy! And here is at least one wounded dwarf: The Goblin Thief slashes The Dwarven Child in the head with her ({large iron dagger}), tearing the muscle through the (cave spider silk hood)! An artery has been opened by the strike! And this: Ast Dorenthob, Peasant cancels Catch Live Land Animal: Could not find path. I'm guessing he fell or something when the ice thawed. Have a save? |
|
Great, my answer got wiped.... No I don't have a savegame, the fort later had two ambushes within a week and succumbed to them. The Dwarven Child is/was Ok and went on to produced one of the forts artifacts. If Goden Dostobtirist died from melancholy or starvation or something to that effect, why are there no alerts about that? Ast Dorenthob could only have been falling into the river then, and that would have drowned him not broken his spine (am I right?). Could not find path is not a critical alert that will make me, the player, think, "OOh, someone might have fallen" Dwarves go around dieing without alerts, battle reports finish without declaring if any of the persons/monsters involved died or if they are still alive... Maybe I should write a bug about that instead. |

If Goden Dostobtirist died from melancholy or starvation or something to that effect, why are there no alerts about that? There was: Goden Dostobtirist, Lye Maker has starved to death. Ast Dorenthob could only have been falling into the river then, and that would have drowned him not broken his spine (am I right?). Ast Dorenthob clearly suffered some kind of trauma -- there's no bug that causes injuries to appear out of nowhere. Without a save or other detailed information about the layout of the fortress and local terrain, there's no way to tell what happened. That doesn't mean it was a bug. Dwarves go around dieing without alerts, You got alerts for both deaths, you just didn't see them. I recommend editing your init/announcements.txt to make the death announcements harder to miss. battle reports finish without declaring if any of the persons/monsters involved died or if they are still alive... Already reported as 0001220. I'll close this as "no change required" unless you have further questions. |
|
actually YOU DO GET COMBAT REPORTS FORM CAVE-INs. The limestone is fighting! and I can view the report and "the spinning limestone strikes Urist Mcminer in the head! Bruising the muscle. |

Hey people, I'll put this here for the benefit of everyone reading this, but if you've got a really long piece of text (init options, world gen parameters, or game logs, for example) please just post it on Pastebin. I know that we can handle it here, but I'd much prefer to have a link to read rather than a massive wall of text. |
