Summary | 0002656: unknown trigger, but after a period workshops no longer allow me to smelt compounds - steel bronze electrum etc
Description | this usually occurs about a year or three into the game. After some time the option to smelt bronze, steel, adamntium(not a compound but also dissapears), electrium etc are not present in the workshop job options. The raw materials for each compound are available - pig iron bars, iron bars, coke, chalk, raw adamintine, ores etc.
Steps To Reproduce | I am currently unsure as to the trigger. This has happened in every fort i have run sincve 2010 that has lasted more than two or three years and built a significant smelting industry. IN my most recent fort it occured jusdt after mining out some adamintine.

Can you still smelt plain metals from ore, e.g. copper, iron, etc? Is the smelter inside a burrow? Is it a magma smelter or a normal smelter? Are you SURE you have enough fuel? If you add the jobs via the manager, do they complete successfully? If not, what cancellation message do you get? If none of that explains it, and the problem persists after a save/load, it would be helpful to upload a save demonstrating the problem to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ |
|
For reference, it's never been possible to smelt raw adamantine directly - you have to extract strands from it at a Craftsdwarf's workshop, then make those strands into wafers. |

Smelters are magma, so no fuel issues, they are in burrows, but my whole fort is, and i only use the burrow system to get dorfs underground during invasions. I can smelt iron etc. (although creation of burrows could be the tigger come to think about it.) good point on adamantine ill check that. I will upload the file an post here at the weekend when i go back home. The fort also demonstrates some other bugs quite well. |

Ah, yeah, reaction jobs (the ones that aren't working at the smelter) have a special problem with burrows -- see 0000434. Shouldn't need a save for this one. Thanks for the reply, and feel free to reopen this report if the problem isn't explained by 0000434. |
