I can confirm this in .12 I've caught them into cage traps myself. |
I've always been able to catch goblin thieves AND master thieves in traps - it's the kobolds that have trapavoid. |
Thieves do not have any special ability to avoid traps - kobold thieves can only avoid traps because all kobolds have [TRAPAVOID]. This has always been the case, even in the old 2D versions. |

the problem is, that sneaking creatures in 40d did avoid traps, but would be catched if they have been spotted. so its either a new feature, or a bug from the conversation to 2010 |

I am fairly certain that sneaking creatures in 40d did not avoid traps, I caught many goblin ambushes and child snatchers in cage and weapon traps and pressure plate triggered devices. This was without spotting them first, in some fortresses I've run my first notice of an ambush or kidnapper arriving would be a rain of goblin parts suddenly appearing out of nowhere in the trap corridor. Kobolds have [TRAPAVOID] and always have, thieves and ambushers do not have [TRAPAVOID] and didn't in 40d. |

Reminder sent to: Duriel
Is this problem still present in 0.34.04? |

Just caught a master thief in cage trap in .04, so I'd say yes. |

Hmm. It's not a problem if this only happens sometimes -- theoretically the goblin thieves should be making the same Observer trap detection rolls that the player does in Adv Mode. If it happens all the time, that would be a problem.
