Summary0003056: Waterwheels deconstruct themselves at random
DescriptionI've got a couple of waterwheels in a river to power my fortress, but I keep going back to them and they've deconstructed themselves. Not all the base wood was there either. I think my dwarves might be stealing the wood from the wheels to build some constructions I'm putting up. I'm going to try to reproduce it, and if it's true, I guess I'll forbid the wheels when build to stop it happening again.

When you built the waterwheels, are they connected directly to gear assemblies which are also themselves linked to levers?

Yeah, that's right. I figure it's worth being able to shut everything down at the source in case anything goes wrong. Why, does that have something to do with it?

Yes, if the gear assemblies are all that's supporting the water wheels, deactivating the gear assemblies will cause the water wheels to collapse. See the "Disconnected gears" section of this article for details: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Gear_assembly

Does that clear things up?

Ah, yeah. Looks like I totally misinterpreted this bug. I probably didn't think of that because they didn't collapse immediately upon disconnecting the power.

Yeah, feel free to make a suggestion if this bothers you but otherwise I'm going to resolve this.
