Summary0003166: All sorts of weirdness with freezing oceans in adventure mode
DescriptionThere is an island on my map that I wanted to reach in adventure mode so I figured I could try to swim the ocean. When I arrived at the beach the entire ocean was frozen so I start walking on it and after a while the game freezes for a minute and an ice wall pops up in front of me, I walked around it and then after a while an ice wall popped behind me!
I have uploaded my save to rapidshare (it can only be downloaded 10 times):
http://rapidshare.com/files/417547668/region1.7z

I think water freezing at night in general should be removed or toned down - the water could become cold instead, giving you hypothermia but not instakilling you.
Steps To Reproduce1. Download my save - http://rapidshare.com/files/417547668/region1.7z
2. Walk forward
3. Ice walls pop up, also the entire ocean is frozen

Yes, I can confirm this does indeed happens, but in my case it's the opposite, trying to get from a small island where the character spawned to the main land, after a while walking in the frozen oceans the ice walls start to appear and my fps goes to hell, the more I advance the worse the fps gets, it looks like a memory leak or maybe superfluous loops that take to long to break.

I uploaded my save as well here http://www.multiupload.com/Y46OEI5B2U, just keep walking west and it will start happening, also it's a SDL save running the genesis mod, I'm on a PC with windows 7 64bit.

I am experiencing these ocean ice walls in the most recent, vanilla version.

The "game coming to a crawl" thing probably isn't related to the ocean being frozen. If you make an adventurer with a decent swimming skill and just head out to sea you'll get the same slowdowns to happen once you reach deep water. My best guess is that that having a large number of loaded water tiles, frozen or not, is not playing nice with adventure mode.

I can confirm the ice walls/chasms and things though. Easy to duplicate, have it happen all the time.

Actually, I'm inclined to think the game really did come to a crawl, probably as all the temperature code crunched away. It could be machine dependent, and a newer processor might not stall (FPS wise) as much as an older one.

Yeah, got encased in ice at once point. Tried slapping flight onto humans so my adventurer could fly, but it was so laggy and I was significantly far into the ocean that I decided to just kill the adventurer.

Maybe something with weather also. Once I crossed such ocean and found two icewall 'squares' appeared near each other with one tile gap. My dwarf climbed it down and it eventually leads to underground ocean (around 50 levels). What is especially peculiar when I climbed down I had a chance to observe perhaps forming of these ice (it seems _cubes_). They're forming from steam which I presume drops fps. So it looks like an issue of giant steam cubes appearing in middle of ocean or as _heat_, I mean 'sunny weather' cubes that actually melts ice making it steam so it goes to ice again little while later.
