Summary | 0003218: Dwarves trigger cage traps when fainting on them, are not being fed or released after unassigning when cage is built
Description | Two of my dwarves were standing on loaded cage traps when fighting goblins. Both of them fainted when suffering wounds and seemed to have triggered the cage traps beneath them. I built the cages but the dwarves are not being fed or released (after unassigning). Then I unassigned them from their cages. They were not released yet when I had the cages deconstructed again. Built cage again and had it linked to lever. Not even this released the dwarves, although I should notice they were dead when I tried this. Mechanisms dropped out, corpse was still in cage - on adjacent tile.
Steps To Reproduce | 1.) build and load cage trap 2.) have dwarf stand on it 3.) have dwarf faint 4.) ??? 5.) PROFIT

Sorry, 2. step of reproduction should read "have *militia* dwarf stand on it". Not sure if it has to be militia but that's how it happened to me. Don't know if it makes a difference, just saying. |

The "unconscious critters trigger traps" thing is a sort of "feature" of all traps. Do you feel there is anything else in your report that doesn't fall under 0003070 or 0001850? |
|
Linking the cage to a lever and pulling the lever will properly release dwarves that are still alive - I've had to do this several times in my latest fortress. |
|
Had a similar thing happen. The first time I built the cage, linked to a lever, and then pulled the lever. Presto, dwarf comes out fine. The second time, I was able to just build the cage, and then unassign them from the cage. Another dwarf came along and let them out. Presto, much less work! Has anyone noticed that mechanisms are not lost like before? In 40d if you linked a lever to a cage, one of them was eventually destroyed. Now, the one by the cage pops out and the one in the lever remains. When you deconstruct the lever you get all the mechanisms back. INABIA(new)F? |

The fainting/unconscious and triggering trap part is covered in 0001168 and the stuck in cage part is covered in 0003070. Please continue discussions of each part in the relevant report. |
