I don't quite understand. It sounds like you had a situation that looked like this...
before, where . is a floor, then you did this...
Where X is now a workshop, and space is a channel you dug for your magma smelter, then...
But the top workshop isn't getting constructed. 1. Did you put down the workshop then designate the channel in a square that would later become a solid block (ie: impassable) in the workshop? 2. What do you mean "blocked to build on until reloading"? |
|
It sounds like to me that for some reason, areas that once had a workshop in them will block out magma access checks for magma-using workshops on the floor above, even after the workshop on the bottom is removed. This continues as long as the program is running but isn't stored within the save, meaning that it's probably something left floating in memory that should have been cleaned out when the lower workshop was removed. Even though the workshop should might as well not have ever existed as far as the game is concerned, it's still tampering with obstruction checks. |
|
my smelter floor looks normally like this: ....... .._._.. .._._.. .._._.. ....... so later on the only place is the X place that will be blocked: ....... .._x_.. .._._.. .._._.. ....... still access to every bit of the workshop. I placed the workshop a single z floor too low, meaning at the dug out space for the magma to reside in. After deconstructing the wrongly build workshop which is on the lower floor, all tiles on the upper z level are blocked for the purpose of building a workshop on it (doesn't matter the workshop type, everything won't work) the problem was resolved after loading the game again, no problems building the workshop there then, playing it resulted in a normally build magma smelter, no more "blocked" comments when trying to place it. |
|
So they won't let you build them at all? IE: It lists the square as "blocked"? I was going to guess that there was some stone that was 1 z-level below that was getting queued for workshop construction, but that then melted. But it's erroneously listing the site as blocked, that deserves some more investigation... |

Doesn't seem able to be reproduced, may be resolvable for others by a save/reload. |
