Summary | 0003448: saving after siege has ended always results in crash (both auto and manual) (with save)
Description | Saving during the goblin siege (with trolls) works but once it ends any saving attempt results in an instant crash to desktop, without any save corruption. save settings are compressed, with backups and seasonal autosaves. disk has enough space and issue remains after reboot.
Steps To Reproduce | Has only happened to me on this fort. Load the save and wait until the siege is through which should be in few days. Then try saving or letting it auto-save.
Additional Information | I don't know if this matters but its the second goblin siege and in both sieges i waited them out by closing my front entrance. I shut it off with a retracting drawbridge and my entrance is a ramp that goes downward into the ground (i'm assuming the trolls couldnt breach it because it was essentially on the floor and they cant attack it). It's also the first game i've had a siege and the siege after which I cant save is the first I've ever had with trolls (they have civ professions btw). Will upload the save as soon as i can.

http://www.filedropper.com/region1-win-2667-spr-win-2670 here's the save file |
went to winxp, loaded on the same df version, saved it again after the siege. no instant crash, it hung at "cleaning game objects" (more like took so long i stopped it). tried reloading right after but it took ages again so i stopped it and took the winxp re-saved game and loaded it to df_linux. it loads properly and saves properly (did load->save->load). no problems so far. |
crash has returned on spring->summer transition next year (previous one was winter->spring). gonna upload this save too, then try the same trick with winxp again. |
i was wrong above: its on the summer->autumn transition. also, i dont know the trigger to this one. when it crashed a human caravan had just arrived (traders, no carriage as usual, AFAIK). went to winxp and it did save properly and loaded properly from the same session (i waited it out this time, turns out it doesnt take that long, but definitely longer than on ubuntu - maybe cause my winxp is trashed). DF doesnt work on my wine so i dont know if wine would have the same effect. this time the save is at the start of the season so to reproduce it you have to wait the entire season. here's the save, before fixing with xp http://www.filedropper.com/region1-win-2667-spr-sum-2671 this time i just saved it on xp and gonna try continuing straight on with df_linux since i dont know the trigger. gonna report back if there's any more of these |
oh btw, when i return the save to linux, i copy the save over the older one, merging the two. |
it goes fine and can save properly up to the point i finish the trade. i can save with the traders in the area but after i trade, saving crashes the game i'll try trading and saving from win xp. i'll be back with the results |
confirmed. the xp trick works just like before. saved again in linux after the trade and its fine. filedropper is being weird now so i cant upload the save that is just as the traders arrived, but i might upload it later. btw, cleaning game objects in xp took ages again and i stopped it but it loaded the save just fine afterwards. |
happened again on the seasonal autosave right after... |
got it to work through wine and it saved fine (i'm probably going to just keep playing through wine anyway now) but although i had autosaves and stuff enabled, it changed season without saving - but i guess thats more of a wine thing that DF's fault cause AFAIK it works on real xp and on native linux so i guess its irrelevant. |
I'm assuming this is gone as of 0.40.03. |
