Summary0003467: Corpses teleport into coffins without dwarves having to haul them.
DescriptionRandom corpses of dwarves and pets appear into newly built coffins in about 5-10s after they have been designated to be used for burial. I'm not even sure if the corpses belong to dwarves from my fort.
Additional InformationHappened in reclaim fort mode.

Are you sure the corpses teleport?
As far as I know it's rather normal that the coffin gets reserved right after it's designated for burial, and after reserving the coffin the corpse gets hauled there. The reservation only occurs if there is corpse without coffin.

On the other hand, I can confirm the fact that at least liason gets assigned to coffin in your fort if he/she died in your map.

Doesn't happen in a normal fort, might be a reclaim only bug. I've seen my dwarves hauling corpses to a graveyard stockpile before moving them to a coffin designated for burial, no teleportation involved.

40d had a bug where even invader dwarves (as in dwarves whom arrive with goblin ambushes/sieges) were buried in your coffins which is probably the same thing with diplomats & merchants. In 0.31.16 I've only seen human invaders with the goblins so far & the only merchants to die so far on my forts have (unintentionally) been elves so can't confirm if this is still the same behaviour. Should be easy enough to check though, simply set kill orders on dwarven merchants or diplomats when they arrive on map.

Foreign dwarves still get buried in 0.31, and I believe Toady's even stated that it isn't a bug - all dwarves are united in death.

Note: If a coffin says "This is the final resting place of Urist McDwarf", that doesn't mean that Urist McDwarf's corpse has teleported into the coffin. It just means that this coffin has been reserved for Urist McDwarf. Actual movement of the body may take later, and in order to tell if the body has been moved into the coffin yet you need to look at the contents of the coffin. The poster of this bug needs to clarify if the coffins are merely being reserved for a dwarf's body, which is normal behavior, or if the body actually is appearing in the contents of the coffin.

Double checked this after a very large goblin ambush killed a few of my militia.
Definitely not a bug in 0.31.16. The corpses were hauled to the coffins designated for burial & the excess corpses were first hauled to a graveyard stockpile while I had some new coffins made at the masons workshop & then hauled to the built coffins once they were designated for burial.

Were there actual corpses/body parts in the coffins or just names displayed?

Can you verify if they were previously dead dwarf that didn't already have a coffin?

Can you verify if they were merchants, guards or liaisons of your parent civ?
