| Description | Every attempt I make to tame purring maggots gets "cancles Tame a Small Animal: needs unrotten item". I have plenty of non-rotten meat, including meat-meat (in addition to organs), and I also have non-rotten plump helmets. I tried modding the maggot definition to remove [NO_EAT] and add [CARNIVORE]. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the other two changes I made to the maggot entry are causing this (I changed it from PET_EXOTIC to PET, and changed it from a subterranean creature to a surface creature). Oh, I also removed all other surface vermin from the raws, so any vermin I caught would be a purring maggot. Save available if needed. | ||||

Back in 40d, tamed purring maggots couldn't be milked - if this is still the case, what you're seeing might not strictly be a problem. |

The only thing I can think of is that somehow the other two changes I made to the maggot entry are causing this (I changed it from PET_EXOTIC to PET, and changed it from a subterranean creature to a surface creature). If that's the case, it may still be a bug, but it would be helpful to pin down the exact nature of the problem. |

I think I've figured it out: you can't tame purring maggots with meat that you've brought with you on the embark. Once I hunted and butchered an animal I could tame the maggot fine. |

Er, since when was it actually necessary to use food to tame a vermin? In the cancellation message "Needs unrotten item", the "unrotten item" is the vermin itself. |
