Summary0003674: "Up/Down Stairway" turning into "Downward Stairway"
DescriptionI've been trying to set up some forts with a central stairway, making one in a 3x3 or bigger square with Downward Stairways in the top and then Up/Down Stairways directly beneath them making a long pipe down. After I've been playing for some time, the top Up/Down Stairways (directly below the top layer) turns into Downward Stairways rendering it impossible for dwarves to pass up or down.
Steps To Reproduce1. Build a square of Downward Stairways.
2. Build a square of Up/Down Stairways on the Z-level below the Downward Stairways.
3. Wait until bug happens.
4. Profit.

By any chance did you embark at a Glacier (and thus carve your stairs through Ice)?

No. Wouldn't the stairs just melt away completely too?

It would be helpful if you can upload a save in which the stairs will predictably transform after a reasonably short period. http://dffd.wimbli.com/

Were you doing any construction/deconstruction in that area?

I'd love to upload it but there's no indicator of when it happens. I'm not constructing anything near it.

I've also just now experienced "Upward Stairways" disappearing in the latest version 31.18.

I think I've just realised, I've been using a moat each time and I've removed the ramps and in the process probably removed the stairs too. Probably a standard ID10T error :O.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yep.

Remove ramps also removes up stairs. Channelling away floors to remove ramps on the level above may also remove up stairs.
