Summary0003683: Friendly and hire-able bandits want you to kill their own boss
DescriptionI started a game as a wandering adamantine colossus. I received a quest to kill some bandits. When I met them alone, combat did not initiate. I've previously read that you could help them, so I tried talking to them. They asked me to kill their boss. The bandits can join you as companions and will attack anyone they see. Anyone they attack will remain friendly to you and the bandits, allowing you to lead the group to kill towns and fortresses with no penalty.

After this, I retired at a fortress and made a copy of the region folder. I regret not saving and making a copy of that.

When I returned to adventure mode after retiring, the bandits want me dead. I suspect this is because I became a member of the fortress's civilization. When I visited the bandit camp again, the units there also wanted me dead. I still have the option to retire at the camp. Attacking any units at the camp changes retiring to starvation.

I reloaded the file again and retired at the camp. The bandits still want me dead.

I generated a new world, and I ran into the same thing. After turning in quests, any new bandits that I meet start out friendly. This time, retiring at the camp sends me to a random lair across the continent. After returning to the camp, the bandits are still friendly. Retiring once more will send you to another lair.
After dispatching that monster, I proceeded to return to the camp. I was met with an ambush of kobolds, but they did not attack me. This seems easily reproducible on my end.

I've run into the same bug twice. As a dwarven adventurer I got a quest to kill bandits in the city catacombs. I had some followers recruited from the keep. When I found the bandits, they were peaceful and I could talk to them and even recruit them. My followers would, however, fight the bandits.
