Summary | 0003937: Dwarves and pets suffocating from spontaneous injuries
Description | Various pets, mostly younger animals, repeatedly are recieving injuries without doing anything that should cause them. Dwarves, including ones that just migrated in, with no combat training and no encounters on way to fortress, have also been recieving these injuries. The injuries are yellow to most of the body, but cyan to a number of organs, including lungs. Justice screen hasn't shown any crimes committed, and no hostile units are on the map. First indication of this happening is usually a message saying the unit suffocated. Have occasionally spotted units right before this happened, and right after, with no fighting in between to cause the injuries.

Do you have temperature on? Is it super cold where your fort is? Are you using any mods or have you changed the raws in any fashion? If you can continuously get this to reproduce at that fort, please upload a save http://dffd.wimbli.com/ |

Another possibility is that they're covered in some sort of acid or have a disease. Check the health screen too. |
|
Yeah, check their inventories for spatters of blood/dust/etc from forgotten beasts and/or demons. |
|
Sounds like a forgotten beast with deadly blood. The Z-health screen is your best bet for noticing the problem in time to make an assessment. Usually they'll be "dizzy" or "winded"--probably winded, in your case--right before they croak. From there, you can figure out what forgotten beast blood they have in common (it's probably near the bottom of the list, since in my experience it doesn't take long between exposure and death) and get to work building walls over (or death pits around) the pools of blood from that particular beast. |

Reminder sent to: cheesemage Was some sort of creature blood/secretion being stepped on by your dwarfs? |
|
We'll assume so. |
