Summary | 0003949: World gets flooded when migrants arrive.
Description | I will play like a newb (since I suck and can't play that well), will go through a change of season without any problems, then migrants will arrive and I will be fucked. Being fucked entails the world becoming the mountain side where I was becoming a shore, the region map showing a massive flood, and only 1 or 2 dwarfs being in sight.
Steps To Reproduce | Play like a newbie: Designate mining Make stockpiles for everything Create like, 8 workshops and have no idea how to use them Make beds, chairs, cabinets, tables Make rooms with the beds and tables Keep idlers under 3 at all times Continue to produce wooden crafts, gems and other things Wait for migrants to arrive
Additional Information | This has happened at least 5 times in each of the 3 different worlds I have made.
Tags | dwarf fortress mode, immigrants, lake, water

Wait your mountain turned into an ocean? This is going to sound really strange but is it the same ocean/lake each time? Where are you installing DF on your PC? Are you sure you didn't channel into a lake above you? |
He says it's happened in three different worlds, so I'm guessing that it's not the same ocean/lake every time. I think what he meant was that there'd be a flood up to the approximate level of his fortress, and that only one or two dwarves would typically survive. I assume this happened all at once, or else the survival rate would be higher. I agree that more details are needed. Have your dwarves been sinful and displeasing to the eyes of God? Let's eliminate the classic causes of this problem first. |
Ogg, I asked if it was the same ocean on the off chance that there was a piece of a world stuck in memory that was getting called back in every case. Others have reported that during some events, portions of the map "undig" themselves, likely due to memory issues. |
Have any of these incidents happened during a reclaim or after embarking on top of a previous fortress? |
Is it possible the OP doesn't know the map has multiple vertical levels? It sounds like the game focused on migrants who appeared on a mountain top, filling the screen with the blue tiles you get when you're 2 or more levels above ground. To someone who doesn't know about Z-levels, this might look like water. If this is the case, you can just press [Shift + period] a few times and you'll be back at your fort. |

Wait your mountain turned into an ocean? No, the water would (in one step) flood everything except a *very* short ridgeline of up hill area around the mountain. "I think what he meant was that there'd be a flood up to the approximate level of his fortress, and that only one or two dwarves would typically survive. I assume this happened all at once, or else the survival rate would be higher. I agree that more details are needed." Is accurate. This is going to sound really strange but is it the same ocean/lake each time? No, I've done it in the same world and tried multiple lakes and oceans since. Where are you installing DF on your PC? Desktop Are you sure you didn't channel into a lake above you? I never used channels. I halted digging when the migrants arrived with no ill effects. Have your dwarves been sinful and displeasing to the eyes of God? They had an idiot playing God... Soo... Have any of these incidents happened during a reclaim or after embarking on top of a previous fortress? I don't know what you are talking about. I'll guess: I um, started with an empty mountain side every time. If this is the case, you can just press [Shift + period] a few times and you'll be back at your fort. OP just tried this to check (I did it before, as well). I hated bringing my dwarves up to see them die so quickly. This happens a lot, but the 1st season schedule is well planned. |

"OP just tried this to check (I did it before, as well). I hated bringing my dwarves up to see them die so quickly. This happens a lot, but the 1st season schedule is well planned." What...? |
I tried it again to check and see if changing the z-axis would allow me to find my dwarves... I hate playing the first season, then getting screwed by the bug/what ever. That's what. |
Try 'u'. Do you see all your dwarves? If not, a save would help. |
Reminder sent to: Mewyabe It would be very helpful for you to upload a save so we can see exactly what you are talking about. http://dffd.wimbli.com/ |

See 0001898 for related instantaneous flooding and ocean pressure issues. |
