I've had this happen a few times if I aborted one worldgen and then allowed another one to complete. In one case, the embark actually finished and I found myself on a slade landscape hundreds of Z-levels tall (and some floating globs of water/magma deep below).

from gamelog.txt:
Generating world using parameter set CREATE WORLD NOW = 533511
 Seed: 3847448176
 History Seed: 4032958272
 Name Seed: 1972614560
 Creature Seed: 130851872

It also occurs when playing adventurer. I checked it completely, and it seemed that the memory spikes to 500 mb for the 4x4 map, and over 2 gig for the rest. It doesnt matter where it is located.

After having this problem occur at two different embark locations on the same world, I genned an adventurer. It looks like the magma sea genned on top of the surface. If someone else could verify/duplicate this with their own adventurer offering to the magma gods, that would eliminate my worldgen prefs as a possible cause.

Okay, it seems Urist McGates found a way to suprise me.

I deleted everything, made a complete fresh install, and Urist McDwarf is not a black screen anymore.

So it has to do something when overwriting the old version (.18) with the new version (.19).

Yeah, don't overwrite one version with another.
