Summary0004478: Coins not valuated propery in Adv Mode (probably from a different civ)
Descriptionwhen i tried to trade, the coins where in the trade screen and my money dropped from 7034 to 290! i don't know why this happened and im sure i didn't buy something that expensive. i can provide save if needed.
Additional Informationi did mod elfs to be the same size as human. but this bug already happened multiple times before i modded it so it should not matter.

The coins are probably from another civilization. Check the name of the coins in your inventory, and compare them to the name of the coins in the shop's chest. By selling those coins, you are exchanging the foreign coins for local coins.

Which is weird, considering the whole point of having coins made out of precious metals is that they have a base value - the value of the metal. Coins are worth almost nothing outside their parent civ in DF.

It isn't "weird" per se, because the metals aren't worth that much. The coins have a certain craftmanship to them which makes it hard to forge. See today's quarters, nickles, pennies, etc., although the pennies are coated with semi-precious copper they still are only worth 0.2 cents when melted.

So the real question is this: "Is the DF economy is based on a "gold standard"? I'd have to agree with dree12, that the penny is worth a penny simply because everyone agrees that is what it is worth, not because the metal itself is worth 1 penny.

No reply from the reporter, so yeah, we'll go with the "different civ" explanation.
