Summary0000456: New Dwarf Fortress saves
DescriptionHey guys
I was playing the newest version, and I saved it and quit the game. The next time I tried to load my last save, it froze on the 'loading game...' screen, then I get an error message saying that the application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. This happened after the first save of this game, and it happens every time I try to load my save. I don't know what to do, please help!
Steps To ReproduceBoot up Dwarf Fortress, select 'Start playing' and then load my last save on the only fortress I have. Then it promptly freezes on the 'loading game...' screen.
Additional InformationI am on a laptop with not the best technical stuff like RAM, etc. I'm not sure if that affects it in anyway.

have you tried another fort, save and then load the new one, your first one may of become corrupted :( , if that still doesn't work try to make a smaller embark/world and see if that helps.
good luck.

We need to know your OS information for this report.

Have you tried the COMPRESSED_SAVES:NO init option?

I have been having problems with loading and saving games... in particular, loading a game with just 7 dwarves that has been running for less than one in-game season takes a looooooong time to load. I'm talking like 10 minutes almost. During that time, my computer is practically frozen, and windows thinks DF is "not responding", but sure enough if I wait long enough it does load. Also I hear a great deal of harddrive crunching while this is going on.

So is this because of a save corruption, compressed save files, or what? Perhaps I need to defrag my HD?

Should I post this as a separate bug?

@misterstone I have noticed that forts at least take longer to save and load, I'd guess that it has to do with all the new underground HFS and caverns.

Minato, we need to know your OS, system specs, and how large your embark area is. Without that info there's no way to figure out what went wrong for you.
