Summary0004646: Floor grates block flow of smoke (and bees)
DescriptionSmoke will not pass upwards through a floor grate.

Also, a beehive with only a floor grate between it and the outside world considers itself to have no access to the outside.

As liquids are intended to pass through a floor grate, gasses (and small things like bees) ought to as well.
Steps To ReproduceDig out a chamber below the surface and fill it with smoke by throwing coal into lava.

Channel a hole in the ceiling. Note that the smoke will travel through the hole in the ceiling out into the surface world.

Put a floor grate in the hole. Note that the smoke is now trapped underground.

The same can be said of fortifications, which used to be used to vent miasma to the surface but now block everything non-liquid in a similar way.
