Summary0004652: Elves happily trade for glazed earthenware goods
DescriptionI just traded a glazed earthenware pot to the elven caravan. Considering that ash was used to glaze the pot, shouldn't this violate elven ethics?
Steps To Reproduce-- Haul glazed earthenware goods to depot.
-- Exchange them for exotic beasts.
-- Laugh at the elves as they ride their yaks into the sunset, preferably using the Eric Cartman "You just ate your parents!" voice.

Elves are only annoyed by materials with the [WOOD] tag and by the hardcoded materials GLASS_CLEAR, GLASS_CRYSTAL, ASH, LYE, POTASH, and PEARLASH (and possibly COAL with subtype CHARCOAL). There probably needs to be a new tag [IMPLIES_TREE_KILL] to cover user-defined non-wooden materials that are derived from wood (and the above hardcoded materials could probably be flagged with it in order to simplify internal checks).

Would it apply to metal object made from a smelter/metalsmith using whe woodburning process?

Elves have never cared about metal goods, since those can all be made without the usage of wood (steel can be made using coke instead of charcoal, and forges can be fueled using coke or magma), and there's nothing that tracks what type of fuel was used.

Yeah I know, I just said that because some items might use wood in-process (i.e. charcoal) and some not (i.e. magma smelting). Would it be possible to mark the item with the process it has been created from in addition with the material they are made of? Example, if you smelt ore with magma it would be marked with [NO_TREES_KILLED_PROCESS] instead of [TREES_KILLED_PROCESS]. In the same maner, you would be able to trade to the elves a glazed earthenware which would have been made from previously traded ash, marked with [NO_TRESS_KILLED_PROCESS_BECAUSE_ITS_BOUGHT_FROM_ELVEN_RACE_WHICH_UNDERSTANDS_THE WAYS_OF_THE_NATURE]!

I might sound a bit whiny, but I just wt to improve the idea!

That's probably getting a bit too far into the territory of suggestions...

Yea probably, but isn't DF a simulation type game? If you want to simulate a elven way of living, it might go that far! Or maybe it can be an option which can be activated for more challenge

Tracking whether or not charcoal was used to make metal or green glass goods is really outside the scope of this bug report - if you want to suggest that it be added to the game, head over to the Suggestions forum and post it (but do a Search first to make sure nobody else has suggested it already).

It should also be noted that, for this bug, only ash glaze should be offensive to Elves - tin glaze should be perfectly acceptable.

No problem with that buddy! I'll check it out, thanks for the input!
