Summary0004812: Save file duplication instead of writing
DescriptionI last put down DF months ago, when the game was in "Late Spring 1061". I recently picked it back up and resumed play. Since I'm using Lazy Newb pack, it was configured to auto save when it rolled into "Summer 1061", which it did. An hour later I did a manual save, and stopped.
When I Continue Playing, and select Region 1, it does not load my last manual save, it rather loads my save from months ago when it was still Late Spring.
I checked the 'modified on' date in windows, and it confirmed I saved it last night. My next step was to load the new summer auto save. Although the folder was successfully created, and indeed titled Summer 1061 - it still loads the Late Spring save as well.
Steps To ReproduceFor me currently, I can reproduce it every time I try to load one of my recent saves.
Additional InformationI understand that if I had been playing out of one of the autosave folders then that is also where DF would put the manual save, but the 'modified on' dates in Windows only show Region 1, Current, and Summer 1061 as being modified in August 2011. Furthermore, even if I was playing out of one of the autosave folders by mistake, that doesn't explain why the new Summer 1061 folder/save file loads the late spring manual save (which by my understanding shouldn't even exist anymore). I did not have the issue when playing before, and have not touched my DF directory in the months since I played last.
I am hesitant to create experimental saves for fear of accidentally overwriting the work in the hope that my work is still available somewhere, though I doubt it.

In which directory did you install Dwarf Fortress? Were you running DF as a user with appropriate privileges to write to that directory?

C:\Documents and Settings\(my name)\My Documents\My Games\Lazy Newb Pack\Dwarf Fortress

I'm the only user on my computer, and I haven't changed any user settings since it was working correctly. I had a similar thought, and checked Read Only status on the folder, but then I realised it wouldn't have even been able to create the Summer 1061 folder in the first place.

In experimenting with it, I loaded Region1, made a small change, and saved. Loaded it right back up - still the original Late Spring 1061 with the small changes not saved (I designated a bunch of rocks for dumping).

I remembered one change I made since I played in may, and that was setting the games folder to be hidden. I don't know how that could make any difference, but I un-hid it anyways. I also found the save folder was over 7.5 gigs - is that known to cause problems? I cleaned the saves out to just Region 1, Summer 1061, and Spring 1061 (and current, obviously). I renamed Summer 1061 to Region 1 since the nature of my issue was that they were the same late spring save anyways.
And somewhere in those actions, un-hiding, cleaning, and renaming, something worked and I can save my progress again.
I still don't know what specifically caused or resolved the issue, but this problem's been corrected.
