Summary | 0004818: Make adamantine wafers does not appear in smelter
Description | I have a bunch of adamantine that I have turned into strands, but no matter what I have tried, the "make adamantine wafers" simply does not appear in a smelter menu. It is not redded out or anything, it just isn't there at all. I do not have any burrows set, so that does not seem to be the problem. I also cannot set the task to be done under the manager menu.

Have you done any modding? |
Is the smelter by any chance in a burrow and the adamntine strands stored outside the burrow? Even without burrow restrictions this can cause problems for reactions, such as making adamantine wafers. Check out 0000434 and see if it applies to your situation. Also, are you able to add the "make adamantine wafers" job in the job manager? This will usually work around the issue in 0000434. |
Knight Otu: I'm using the Lazy Newb Pack, but the only modifications I've used from that have been graphical packs. Telarin: As stated originally, I do not have any burrows set, and adamantine wafers are not visible in the job manager. |

I solved the issue. My embark was in two biomes, "Mountain" and "Plains." I was checking my entity_default, and The "Mountain" entity is what I was originally paying attention too because it was the first one, but when I scrolled down to the "Plains" entity, I noticed "ADAMANTINE_WAFERS" was not in the permitted reactions. I added it, created a new world, and voila; my smelter is working as normal. |
Just so you know, "mountain" and "plains" biomes have absolutely nothing to do with the entity definitions - the MOUNTAIN entity is for Dwarves, and the PLAINS entity is for Humans, so unless you were playing as Humans, your fix didn't actually do anything relevant. |
Reminder sent to: Kordoth Does the issue persist in your old world/save after a save and reload? As Quietust noted, the PLAINS entity defines the humans civilization, and thus changes to it shouldn't affect what your dwarves can or can't do. This isn't the first time that I heard about reactions vanishing (specifically the adamantine wafers reaction - http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=69062.0 ). If there is an intermittent bug that removes reactions, that info may be important. |
To be honest, I completely forgot that I installed a mod awhile ago, and I did embark as humans. So I guess I lied about not installing any mods. I'm surprised I didn't realize it immediately, but there you go. The "bug" had to do with the adamantine wafers reaction not being under the human entity_default, and not with the dwarves. Sorry for the trouble. |

Okay then. |
