In one of my games, I got a quest to kill a mountain titan that led me to a Human castle; once I got there and talked to the Lord, he regave the quest and it then directed me to the titan's shrine. |

I talked to a villager in a town today (34.03) and the villager told me to check the first house to the north, and yes, the vampire was residing there.
I'd say its ok now. |

I think it's the fact that the "quest compass" just points you to the town where you are to search, and the town is to the "compass" a specific point (probably in the center of the whole "town area") that doesn't have to coincide with any important structures (or any structure at all, for that matter, if you're dealing with small communities like hamlets).
I was once tasked to kill a vampire hiding in a human hamlet, but because I had reached a too high level of fame within that civilisation, the villagers refused to help me pinpoint him (or rather, they told me to seek out Lord/Lady Thisandthat when I offered them my service), so I tried to track him down using the "quest compass" just like you. It directed me to the middle of a field, and after some rather meticulous searching of said field, I gave up and proceeded to talk to every villager in the town until I stumbled upon the right one. |

What happened for me, in 34.03, qas that the map pointed out the right house, however the legend in the upper left was pointing the wrong direction (the house was on the southwest and the legend was pointing it to the northeast - more or less where the center of the town was) |
