Summary0005368: Friendly werebeast-Peasant arrives with "megabeast" announcement, gets caught in cage trap
DescriptionLots of stuff that doesn't add up here.

A megabeast style announcement popped up:
The Peasant Erib IbeshatŒs has come! A short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry.

This peasant did not appear at the map edge. The announcement popped up when he got trapped by one of my entrance cage traps. He shows up in the unit list as friendly with not much more information.

Possible bugs (may all be symptoms of the same underlying condition)
* Why is a friendly dwarf getting announced like a megabeast? A hostile might make a little more sense, but a friendly is just weird.
* How is a friendly getting caged?
* Why doesn't the announcement show up until the trap springs?

I have made a copy of the save in case it's needed, but will hold off using dffd space.

I figure the next step will be to try to release him and see what he does.

He's probably a were-beast. What moon phase is it?

I'm not doing so well with bug reporting, eh? lol

You're exactly right, this is a feature. Not positive there isn't still a bug in there somewhere, but likely not. Just don't know Toady well enough to know whether cage-trapping the undiscovered beast is an intended behavior or not. It would be more stealthy if not...

Built the cage, started connecting it with mechanisms. The icon blinking behind the cage changes to a Ñ. What the heck, haven't seen that character used before. Go to K screen, and whaddya know, it's a were-lizard. And the handy new moon indicator confirms, we're at full moon phase.

Loving the new features, even when they fool me into thinking something is broken. <woo hoo>

Still interesting it causes dwarves to flee and cage traps to trigger when its in pesant (or "friendly") form. Is this a feature too?

Werebeasts "sneak" in avoiding traps, lose their trap-avoidance and try to flee when they revert to their normal form, and post an announcement when "discovered" (by a cage trap in your example). The form of the announcement is a bit odd when the werebeast has already reverted to a meek "friendly" unit, but everything else here seems intentional.
