Summary0005544: Hospitalized Dwarves die of starvation / dehydration
DescriptionWhen Dwarves get hospitalized, at some point during their treatment, they may fall through the 'roster' and they'll be from then on ignored completely until they die of starvation or dehydration. I've ruled out a bunch of reasons for this happening:

- It happens no matter how big the hospital is and no matter how many free beds there are.

- It has happened during every game I've played so far, often more than once.

- It can happen after the Dwarf has had medical procedures done already.

- It is not related to not having enough Doctors or the Doctors being too busy.

- Usually, the Dwarf will have 'Diagnosis required' among other things in the list.
Steps To ReproduceGet a hospital running and get enough injured dwarves until it happens.

I've upped the savegame here: http://www3.zippyshare.com/v/11431744/file.html

Considering this bug and your other bug, 0005545, both relate to the same issue, I'm going to group them together.

Do you any dwarves, in their labour preferences, set to feed prisoners/wounded and to recovery wounded? If not, this explains both of your problems - without those labours enabled dwarves will not bring water/food to wounded/prisoners, as the name implies.

Do you also have at least one dwarf with the other medical labours enabled - Diagnosis, Setting bones, surgery, suturing, and dressing wounds?

Edit: also do the dwarves that tend to die in this fashion have an assigned current task other than rest?

Yes, all my Dwarves except for 2 nobles are set to water and feed prisoners and wounded. And I have at least half a dozen of each medical profession idle most times. Over 160 Dwarves total and each profession has plenty of backups.

I think the only relation this bug has to my other bug is that both are issues with how Dwarves handle / see assignments, and how Dwarves can fall through the grid. (and of course that both bugs can be checked by the same savegame right there.)

Edit: The hospitalized Dwarf has 'no Job', the imprisoned Dwarf is stuck on 'Drink', which he fulfills only if you put a food stockpile in his room. Then I think he's back to same old being stuck in prison.

I did some digging and came up with 0004850 and 0004830 which both sound related.

I edited in a question to my note but I don't think you've seen it. Do you the dwarves that die in this fashion have an assigned current task other than rest? There's a bit of a long-standing bug that dwarves that aren't resting aren't considered as wounded. This related to 0004850.

Additionally, try creating a few more medical dwarves or locking some of your current ones in with your hospital - according to 0004830, injured dwarves might not get water or food until the currently assigned medical task is complete.

I looked at 0004830 a few days ago when I had the issue with an earlier fort, and tried the solutions provided there, but they didn't resolve the issue. Just tried it with this savegame, and unfortunately the Dwarf is still not being tended to.

I'm inclined to agree with the observation that it's because the Dwarf is not resting anymore.

Based on that I'm tempted to pile this under 0001941 or 0000309, as basically being related to non-rest tasks preventing medical care.

I agree, it is probably a priority issue. It might also be an assignment issue, where the job is queued for a dwarf that is really busy - say the miner.

Please reupload your save to http://dffd.wimbli.com/, otherwise it'll probably get taken down before Toady can look at it.

Dffd won't let me activate my account properly, so I'm stuck with using free file hosts. If that upload expires, I'll put it somewhere else.

Thank you. The issue isn't that I don't get the activation E-Mail, it's that the link doesn't do anything.

I've been trying where to add my comment but I do have the same symptom :
ligthly injured dwarf dying of thirst/hunger.

I dont even know if it has been fixed or not, it seems there is quite a few ticket open on this issue.

I could send the save if needed.

I tried to remove bed, add bed back, still no REST, sticked on "No Job".
Removed all job : No change
Added the job back : No change.
Throught DwarfTherap. or in game : No change.
Removed from Squad : No change
Added back to Squad : No change.

Went to move his squad around : Went as a "Soldier"
Removed the task of moving his squad : Went back to "No Job"

argh226, if your save reproduces the problem in 0.40.13, please upload it to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ and post the link here.
